My name is Clíona. I'm 45 and I had a heart transplant almost 5 years ago at the Mater Misercordiae University Hospital, Dublin.
I am participating in the VHI Women's Mini Marathon 2019:
- In memory of my donor.
- To raise awareness for Organ Donation.
- To raise funds for the Irish Heart and Lung Transplant Association (IHLTA).
A group of fantastic women from all over Ireland will join me to achieve this goal - they (along with many others) supported me during my very sick days, during my transplant surgery, my recovery and they continue to support me now.

I spent 6 months in hospital, receiving world-class care while waiting for my transplant. I am indebted to all staff at the Mater hospital and in particular to the Congenital Heart Team & to the Transplant team. During my time in hospital the Irish Heart & Lung Transplant Association (IHLTA) were a vital support to myself and my family. My 3 girls were under 4 at that time and 4 hours away in Donegal. IHLTA helped facilitate their visits and supported me during my long stay away from my family.
I feel very lucky and grateful to have been given The Gift of Life and to be back home with my family. I am aware that many others are in the position I was in 5 years ago and they need our help.
Please help us help them by giving whatever you can using the 'Give Now' button. The more people that know about Irish Heart and Lung Transplant Association, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing our page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!
